Installations Inside/Out
September 2nd, 2009 by
This month Angelenos will have the opportunity to view work by Bruce Nauman. His installation "Topological Gardens," currently on view at the U.S. Pavilion and other venues at the Venice Biennale, won the Golden Lion for best national participation (the first time since 1990 that an American artist has won this award). On September 12th from 11:30am and 12:30pm, the Armory Center for the Arts in Pasadena will present a public work by him. "Leave the Land Alone" (a 1969 sky-writing land art proposal for a museum exhibition) will be written in the sky over the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena. Recommended viewing locations; Brookside Park, La Loma Bridge, and Colorado St. Bridge.
This work is part of the show "Installations Inside/Out" which will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Armory Center for the Arts by commissioning twenty contemporary artists, who have created art installations in the past, to make new site-specific art installations both inside and outside the Armory. Artists in the exhibition will include Kim Abeles, Edgar Arceneaux, Deborah Aschheim, Daniel Buren, Carl Cheng, Seth Kaufman, Bruce Nauman, Barry McGee, Michael C. McMillen, Carlos Mollura, Matthew Moore, Jane Mulfinger, Sarah Perry, Rudy Perez, Ed Ruscha, Betye Saar, Barbara T. Smith, John Trevino, Pae White, and Mario Ybarra Jr.
