Crowd Surfing: Grieves & Budo

Photographed by:Brooke Workneh & Jacque Pardo

We love a good Thursday night dance. One more day of work left before two days off - seems only fair. So when we were invited to see Grieves & Budo at The Troubadour, we were already out the door at 5:55pm for some pre-party drinks.

Originally from Chicago, but hailing from Seattle, Grieves now lives and produces his music out of Brooklyn with his right hand man Budo, the instrumentalist. The two come together to concoct a winning formula; a new take on hip-hop that results in a high intensity performance.

Grieves opens the show with "Bloody Poetry", the hit single off his most current album Together Apart. Our arms rise, swinging side-to-side; he singlehandedly induces the audience to take part in one collective motion, and we're digging it.

Selling out the Troubadour on their first headlining tour, we tip our hats to you both, and then we shuffle our feet side to side and let the music carry us forth into the night. Well done.
