Abelardo Morell in Madrid

October 14th, 2009 by

Imagine sitting on a train between two large glass windows. Reflections in the facing window of the two landscapes whipping by begin to merge into a single plane. This intermingling of images challenges our concept of space, reality and movement. Photographer Abelardo Morell uses Camera Obscura to capture the traversing of environments in his most recent color works.

The large-piece prints are up now in the Michel Soskine Gallery in Madrid.

It's fitting to see Old World edifices melt into New World bedrooms as a New York-owned gallery in Madrid exhibits a Cuban American artist. A palpable cross-continental dialogue comes alive in otherwise still, somber-toned pieces.
