Lane Crawford does Manolo Blahnik

What do you get when you cross legendary shoe-designer Manolo Blahnik with renowned department store Lane Crawford? You get a first-rate pop-up that draws sighs longer than a Manolo's stiletto heel. The pop-up Manolo Blahnik retrospect drew celebrities and designers to Lane Crawford's flag-ship store in the IFC Mall in Hong Kong, February 14-15. Guests were treated to an intimate look into Blahnik's legendary career by the designer himself. An exhibit of Blahnik's personal photographs of friends and muses accompanied the reissues of signature archival pieces and the debut of the house's new collaborations.

Par for the course of Blahnik's oeuvre came surprises in the shape of  ten specially selected Manolo archive designs set for re-launch. The collection, dating as far back as 1974, features everything from Alexander Calder-esque pony-hair flats to black-patent stiletto sandals with red spikes, available exclusively at Lane Crawford and at LaneCrawford.com.

In tandem with the heritage homage, six luxury labels, including Artel Glassware, Globe-Trotter Luggage, Connor Stationers, and Fortnum and Mason, paid tribute to the designer's mastery with their collaborations. The iconography of the Manolo was set-off with silk stiletto-print scarves from Olmetto, vintage trunks and train-cases from Globe-Trotter, and leather gloves by renowned glove-label Cause Gantier that threatened to avert glances away from your fancy footwork. An exhibit featuring Blahnik's photographs of the likes of Bianca Jagger, Ryan O'Neal, and Katherine Hepburn, were also on display, serving as testament to the designer's lasting endurance and raising a toast to his timeless classicism.
