Metal Fridays: RIP RJD
June 11th, 2010 by

On Fridays at Flaunt Magazine, we do a stretch, Japanese-style, to greet the day. We make sure to do neck rolls, because Fridays at Flaunt are "Metal Fridays," and headbanging is a necessity. Today's Metal Friday takes a bit of a somber note. Last weekend, we headed over to Forest Lawn Cemetery to honor a towering figure in heavy metal, Ronnie James Dio. The true heads came out and sat on the lawn to watch the memorial, which featured performances from members of Dio, Black Sabbath, Queensryche, and many more.

Dio quite literally invented the devil horn metalhead gang sign, and for that alone, we salute Ronnie James Dio.

Dio was also known in the metal community for being pretty much the nicest guy in the business.

He was a member of Black Sabbath, Rainbow, and fronted his own band DIO though a long and storied career that lasted over 50 years! I'll leave you with my favorite DIO track, "The Last In Line."
