Now Again Record's "Loving on the Flipside: Sweet Funk and Beat-Heavy Ballads 1969-1977" comp is out, a decades long quest, collecting one-offs, rarities, and odd-ball gems that narrow in, focus and particularize, before guiding us toward a greater understanding of the genre "soul music" becomes more complete. The particularity of this comp, like any good anthology, both deepens and broadens our "generic conceptions" while revitalizing forgotten jams. It's definitely worth checking out.
Tracks we here at Flaunt find particularly fierce. The Darling Dear's, "I Don't Think I'll Love Another", The Equatics "Merry Go Round", and Rhythm Machine's "Whatcha Gonna Do".
