The [soundtrack for _Free Color_](https://orcd.co/freecolor), a docufilm following legendary Venezuelan artist, Carlos Cruz-Diez, is out now with all net proceeds going to Patricia Velásquez’s Wayuu Taya Foundation. Celebrated by Oscar-winning actress Helen Hunt, award-winning actress, activist, and model Patricia Velasquez, LA Philharmonic CEO Chad Smith, composer Gustavo Dudamel and more, the film, directed by Alberto Arvelo, tells the story of Cruz-Diez as he seeks to fulfill his lifelong dream of creating art that frees color from form. Pushing the limits of technology, Cruz-Diez utilized the phenomenon of “chromosaturation”, a space of colorless clouds of color. Living and working in Paris from 1960 until his passing in 2019, the artist worked with a conception of color as something autonomous within time and space.
_Free Color: The Soundtrack_ is a compilation of the music from the film and features work from Dudamel with singer Nella Rojas, musician Devandra Banhart, and the composers Nasuy Linares, Álvaro Paiva-Bimbo, and Sebastián Arvelo. The soundtrack serves as an interpretation of the color and atmosphere created through Cruz-Diez’s work, also featuring an unreleased song performed by Cruz-Diez on guitar and his wife, Mirta Delgado (1972), and a special song by Cruz-Diez's granddaughter, Fabiana Cruz. A private listening event happened in Los Angeles on Sunday, May 16, where _Free Color: The Soundtrack_ was experienced through L-Acoustics’ [Island](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uh1aiB03Gj0): a powerful new immersive experience.
The Wayuu Taya Foundation, founded in 2002 by award-winning activist, actress, and model, Patricia Velásquez, aims to help improve the lives of Latin-American Indigenous communities while maintaining and respecting their traditions, culture, and beliefs. The Wayuu Taya Foundation have supported the Indigenous people of Venezuela for many years now by building schools, feeding people, and recently supplying masks to those most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
