Budding electronic producer [inverness](https://www.instagram.com/invernessofficial/?hl=en) is the shining example of why you can’t judge a book by its cover. At first glance, he seems like another midwest-to-LA, hustling, young DJ, but a closer look shows his musical track record is loaded with chart-topping K-pop hits. Until today, he kept that profile relatively low while traveling back and forth to Korea, bringing his production prowess to Platinum records and masses of K-pop stans.
Premiering on _Flaunt_, inverness teamed up with G-Eazy collaborator and pop singer-songwriter Anthony Russo, along with their good friend and globally renowned K-pop star, Kang Daniel, for the infectious single and video, “State of Wonder” out via Monstercat.
“I think the music industry as a whole will be seeing a lot more collaborations like this in the coming years. It means the world to me that Daniel chose this to be his first \[collab\] with an American artist, and I can’t wait for us to work together more in the future,” inverness shares.
The trio have previously collaborated behind-the-scenes on Kang Daniel’s records, including the massive tune, “Who U Are” off his #1 album, _MAGENTA._ Today’s release marks Daniel’s first official single with non-Korean artists, which stands to be a huge cultural moment in the world of K-pop. We’ve seen icons like BLACKPINK and BTS break records and barriers through their stateside success, which paves the way for artists like Kang Daniel to do the same.
Russo is no bedroom producer either. He’s written for some of the biggest K-pop acts like EXO, NCT Dream, and The Boyz, crafting a sound that rivals Justin Timberlake. He catapulted to fame on the back of his G-Eazy collab, “Rewind,” followed by a spot on G’s sold-out tour. Injecting “State of Wonder” with his pop sensibilities and earworm lyricism, he’s the icing on top of this boy band production.
Directed by Jordan Wozy, the creative behind videos for Machine Gun Kelly, The Chainsmokers, and others, “State of Wonder” sees inverness play the role of a mad scientist-type who’s found a way to help his lovestruck friend Anthony enter a dream state where he can relive euphoric memories from his past.
inverness fills us in on the concept: “I knew from the beginning the video would have to enter some sort of literal ‘State of Wonder’ when the drop hit. Building off of that, Wozy and his team came up with this amazing plotline leading up to these drop moments. Using love stories is universal, as I hope the message of the song is, so the two paired nicely with an interesting twist.”
