Throughout all of human history, an appreciation for art and creative thinking has been a large part of our culture. From ancient cave paintings to immersive digital experiences, creative artists around the world have enriched the world with their work. Their one-of-a-kind manner of thinking allows them to see the world in different ways, creating new realities. One of these creative individuals bringing their ideas to life is Jason Ivy.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, Jason Ivy is an American singer, songwriter, rapper, and actor. Jason's love and interest in music began at a very young age when he would sing along to whatever was playing on the radio. Growing up, his parents consistently played music across many genres to introduce him to a variety of sounds. Jason’s favorite songs as a child spanned across genres and decades, which influenced his soulful, melodic sound today. This exposure to the dynamic world of music inspired Jason to begin writing poetry, and later, songs. He noticed the link between written poetry and musical rhythm, a discovery that lent itself to his budding interest in music composition.
Jason’s music career began in late 2018 when he earned recognition in the mainstream market, following the release of his first studio-recorded single, "Higher." The single gained admiration from both peers and established artists like Majid Jordan, which opened the path for Jason to release his first EP project. Since then, his skills have earned major accomplishments like being part of a Billboard #1 project, and even being a featured subject in a national PBS documentary campaign.
“I’m very passionate about telling stories from perspectives that haven’t yet been explored, and about generating equity for people who look like me,” shares Jason. “I’m using my art to open doors that are typically closed off, and I’m holding them open for those who will follow.”
One of his biggest accomplishments has to be the forthcoming Guinness World Record-breaking project “Divided.” This is easily the most comprehensive musical project ever created by an independent artist, and consists of numerous parts. It contains a full-length debut album, a debut feature-length documentary film, a VR photo gallery, original poetry and text, illustrations and animations from artists around the world, and even a local event series. This ambitious project allows viewers and listeners to dive into this “divided” world and experience things from a different lens. Through the project, people will be able to reflect on their role in this division, whether that be internal or external.
One of the ways Jason has forged his path in the art scene is by understanding not only the power of music and art, but understanding people as well. Jason studied Cognitive Neuroscience and Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania so he’d be able to understand people’s emotions, motivations, and perceptions of the world – to meet them where they are, and communicate effectively.
“I see art as the easiest way to accomplish this,” Jason shares. “Communication is an art form, and all of the arts carry their own dialects.”
Today, Jason is known as a multi-hyphenate, thanks to his diversity and versatility as a creative. Jason also treasures working with other creative individuals to exchange ideas in a mutually respectful and mind-opening fashion.
