The Guyanese, trap-pop sensation prides herself in her heritage, as she proudly puts on for her roots and culture any chance she can. Pulling up to Paramount Studios in Los Angeles, the singer-songwriter sported long nails themed with her country’s flag painted on. Having moved to Los Angeles at a young age, South Central and Hyde Park to be exact, a young Jourdin Pauline studied musical theatre and performing arts with aspirations of becoming the superstar she is now. Captivating audiences around the world with not only her music, but her inner and outer beauty, Jourdin is your average down-to-earth girl-next-door who loves creating music down to the core. Most recently, she released her highly-anticipated single titled “Lustful Desires,” following the success of her previous release “Nasty.” Both records can be found on her forthcoming project, _Love Songs About Nobody_, arriving Friday, May 21st. _Flaunt_ caught up with Jourdin to discuss her sound, her Guayanese background, writing and producing at the age of 10, biggest influences, new singles “Nasty” and “Lustful Desires,” why it’s important for her to give back, her forthcoming project, fashion sense, and more! I said “you know, I could make it a thing”. **Talk about your Guayanese background and how that plays into your life and career.** I love being from Guayana, I love my culture. It plays a huge part because even though I’m in LA—I came here when I was 6, got Americanized—I just can’t let go of that side. I make sure I incorporate it in everything I do, everything I am. Trap-pop that’s Guayanese, that’s going to come out of my music. Dancehall vibes, soca vibes coming soon.  **What was the household over there versus when you came to Los Angeles?** I was from a third world country, so I came here, straight to the hood. The same type of ordeal, but more buildings and more grit. **Did you always have these aspirations to become this artist?**  I knew very young. My mom even says my first words were a song. I always knew I really pushed for it when I was 10. I had some books when I was 4, but really decided this was what I’ma do around that age.  **Writing and co-producing at age 10, you’re so young then. How did you learn how to produce?** I don’t know. People be asking me and I say “yo, it’s God.” It comes out. I’ve always been a musical-type being. Couldn’t connect with school, couldn’t connect with sports, couldn’t connect with anything other than entertaining. Melodies or making a beat, stuff like that was my happy place for a really long time. Even now. **Who were you bumping coming up?** Prince #1, Minnie Riperton, Stevie Wonder, Aaliyah, Petra, Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson. **How did you get your name?** It’s my name. Jourdin Pauline. Pauline is the reason why we’re here in America today. It’s my grandmother, God rest her soul. That’s my middle name. **You just released “Nasty,” bring us back to that recording session.** “Nasty” was a freestyle, it was actually in a little trap studio. I love “Nasty,” it was something organic. When I sit on a song for too long, I’ma hate it. If it doesn’t come in the first couple of runs, get me away from this beat! \[laughs\] **What was your vision with the music video?** My vision was to show my kinky side, to look like a girl that just wants to have fun. There was a goat on set, it was really nice. I got to hold one. **Have you not shown your kinky side before?** No. It was cool but I got flagged on Youtube. I don’t know why it got flagged on Youtube. I don’t even know, it’s not even bad.  **How does your boyfriend feel about “Nasty”?** He loves “Nasty.” A lot of boys love “Nasty,” a lot of boys. **What is it you want fans to get from your story?** To not ever give up, to push through. To be themselves, to be great, be bold. Even though I’m speaking it, I’m doing it too. I want them to say “wow.” My little cousin (he’s 19) said to me yesterday that I inspired him to be and want to do more, it made me feel like I’m doing good.  **What drives your philanthropy, and waiting to raise awareness for AIDs and homelessness?** When I was a kid, there was this painter/artist that was infected with HIV. He was homeless, going through a lot. My mom set up a charity event. We got an organization together to create awareness for teens and people that were born with it or accidentally affected with it. To give awareness and of course to practice safe sex, acknowledge and money to even treat a man-made disease. **How does it feel to have a platform now and be able to help out those people?** Oh my gosh, I feel great and I really want to do more. First I don’t want to overflow too many things at once. When I build this foundation, I’ll be able to really be a blessing and really have more of a stance with what I want to do. I keep building up so I can do more.  **Talk about your new single, “Lustful Desires.”** It's a different sound, a nostalgic timeless sound. It’s a vibe. The video comes with it, so look out for the video. Expect time travel and acting skills, it’s going to be really cool.  **Is it another kinky-side one?** A little bit. I’m like “okay”.  **What are your “Lustful Desires”?** A red Ferrari.  **Best encounter you’ve had with a fan?** Them genuinely loving my music and saying “it really made me feel a way.” Aw, forreal? \[laughs\] Thanks. I love that, been getting that a lot too. It’s making me feel really good. **How does it feel to have “Spiral” hit a million views on Youtube?** It feels great. It’s amazing, but we’ve got to get to billions. **What do you do for fun?**  I like Six Flags. I just went, it was really fun. Get a Fast Pass, don’t go and just go because you’re going to be in lines. Studio, that’s my fun time. An occasional outing to Miami, little trips here and there. **3 things you need in the studio at all times?** Water, Sony mic, and Pauline Kush. **Let’s talk about it! Talk about partnering with Cookies on your own weed brand, Pauline Kush.** I just did it, and I love it. I’m excited to expand it and do more with it. It’s selling out like crazy. Girl, it’s selling out so fast. Every time I post that we have it, everybody… I can’t even make it up. No bro, everybody. **What sets your weed apart from the others?** It’s real zaza. It’s that real good gas. It’s literally nothing to even play with. \[laughs\] Real gas, that’s why everybody’s like “oh my gosh! Whoa…” **How would you describe your fashion sense? It’s very vibrant I can see.** I’m looking a little chill today, I didn’t have time to get it ready. My fashion sense is hoochie, but it’s high fashion. It’s high-quality hoochie, with a little hippy-couture drizzle. Edgy and “I don’t really care, I look cute.” \[laughs\] And princess vibes.  **Any goals for yourself at this point in your career?** To keep expanding, exceeding all expectations. Go #1, can’t get me off that #1. Go Diamond, tours. **What can we expect from your forthcoming EP, _Love Songs About Nobody_?** You can expect a whole experience. This is something that I’ve been working really hard on so I want people to feel it. This is something people are going to feel, something for everybody. Timeless music. **What is timeless music?** Timeless music is something you can listen to 10, 15, 20 years from now and still love it, feels like it came out yesterday. I was listening to “Gin and Juice” by Snoop Dogg, that’s an automatic timeless hit. You can listen to it anytime.
