Based on the 1962 Dutch novel, De Brief voor de Koning, by Tonke Dragt, William Davies’ new Netflix adaptation tells the story of Tiuri, a teenage squire, who answers a call for help and navigates the three fictionalized kingdoms of Unauwen, Dagonaut, and Evillan, on a treacherous journey to deliver a secret letter to the King. Meanwhile, the brutality of the merciless Prince Viridian complicates matters for Tiuri, enlisting him to rise to the challenge. We ask Amir Wilson, Ruby Serkis, Gijs Blom, and Thaddea Graham, of their respective journeys filming _Letter for the King_.
**_Letter for the King_ is based on a novel of the same name from 1962, which takes place in the Middle Ages. How does Tiuri’s story, the relationship with Lavinia, Iona, and the brutality of the prince translate in 2020?**
What’s so beautiful about the book is that a big theme is of self discovery and coming-of-age, and I think that’s universal and global, regardless of time period. Nowadays, people can relate to a lot of the characters and relationships and the difficulties because our story, although it’s really exciting, thrilling and kind of extraordinary, feels like real people.
**You all filmed in New Zealand and eventually Prague. What are some of the most effective ways you stay focused when travelling and being far from home?**
The entire team that we worked with was so passionate about the story, like our writer, Will, and our producer, Paul. Everyone was so invested in the story that you want to do a good job, you don’t want to let them down and not match their enthusiasm. That was a really good way to stay focused, because everyone just wants to make this the best possible thing it could be.

**How much of your own selves have you placed into your respective characters? Which qualities of yourselves do you most wish to impart into _Letter for the King?_**
I ended up learning more from Iona, than Iona would have learned from me. She’s strong and constantly moving forward. I find a lot of comfort in her, so playing her was a gift.
**What are you listening to at the moment? Who are some of your favorite musicians?**
I always listen to Bob Dylan and Maggie Rogers, she’s sick. Also Brandi Carlile!
