[Minus Gravity](https://www.instagram.com/MinusGravity/?hl=en) are here to defy all boundaries in music, fashion, art, and everything in between. Composed of [Mic Apollo](https://www.instagram.com/apolloliberace/?hl=en), [Sir Blaze](https://www.instagram.com/gachigotjuice/?hl=en), and [Rob Will](https://www.instagram.com/theejuicegod/?hl=en), the musical trio all met in high school and have been glued to the hip since, making music together for over a decade. Each individual boasts their own unique style, swag, and sound, declaring all eyes on them as they enter the room.
When it comes to music, Minus Gravity blurs the line of R&B, rap, and rock, with the ability to hypnotize listeners as they transcend genres. Hailing from San Antonio but now based in sunny Los Angeles, the guys recently separated from their major label deal, entering their newfound independence and seizing their creative control.
To celebrate, the rising act unleashed their newest, highly-anticipated project titled _Mood Music 1_, a 38-track album released at the end of last year. While there’s a song for every given mood—happy, sad, mad, heartbroken, turnt, driving music, date night… you name it—the guys pride themselves in their visuals, pairing cinematic videos to their already explosive records.
Minus Gravity means “nothing can hold you down,” and these guys are about to take over. Flaunt caught up with Apollo, Blaze, and Rob Will via Instagram Live, who were chillin’ with their pet bearded dragon. Read below as we discuss how they came together, leaving the major label and going independent, new playlist _Mood Music 1_, collaborating with Chanel West Coast, the visual for “Yea Yea Yea,” and more!

**How you guys been holding up with the pandemic and everything?**
**Apollo:** We’re doing amazing, just chillin’. Happy about life. Excited to be talking to you.
**Rob:** Things are amazing, been working. The pandemic gave us time to slow things down and really put things in perspective, get the game plan together.
**How did the group come together?**
**Apollo:** It’s a long story. I had this one friend when I was in middle school, he had a cousin in the neighborhood across the street from us. I went from my neighborhood and walked to my friend’s cousin’s neighborhood. This is how I met Blaze in the 7th grade: he was washing his car. I don’t remember why, but I had water balloons on me. While he’s washing his car, in my head I thought “I don’t know this dude, but I’m finna hit this n\*gga with these water balloons.” \[laughs\] I hit him with the water balloons and took off running. It was back in the day, I had on some big EKKO baggy pants that were past my knees. They fell all the way down and I tripped, he wet me up with his water balloons he’s using them to wash his car. That’s our first encounter, then we met Rob a few years after that really.
**Rob:** They were working at a studio on the other side of this performance arts, talent development school, for certain students who could enroll in there on a scholarship. I was going to a performing arts school on a scholarship, they’re using the studio on the other side of the building. By us going to it and through word of mouth, I ended up singing a song for them.
**Apollo:** We said “alright, this little n\*gga’s hard.” He was 14 at the time. We said “yeah, he’s hard.” We’ve been making music ever since then, everyday for a while now. 10 plus years straight.
**I interviewed you guys at Capitol Records last time, talk about going completely independent.**
**Apollo:** It’s been great. We felt it was time to get inside the building and really learn the ins and out of a machine they call it, or a record label. What that really means being there. We’re all about developing and learning every year.
**Blaze:** Facts!
**Apollo:** That was a learning step for us. We’re able to get inside the building, take these meetings with Universal in Paris. We went to Universal in New York, we visited all them different companies to see what everything was really about. It’s different. Being independent, we really have full control, which you really miss once you’re signed to a label for sure. They want you involved in a certain situation or contract that keeps you from doing certain things, so it’s a lot of freedom that comes with that. We’re back to releasing music for our supporters, it’s gonna be a hot summer! That’s all I can say.
**How does it feel to have creative control, and to be able to move more freely with nothing holding you back?**
**Apollo:** It feels good. We can drop what we want to drop, we can do exactly what we want to do. Songs, videos, we don’t have to wait to go through a process, through a label so they say “Yeah, y’all can drop that.” We’re free to do whatever we want. Shout out to Capitol and Universal, we’re still doing business with them. We had a great contract, it’s no bad blood or nothing. I’m glad we didn’t get locked up like a lot of artists do in this sticky, tricky situation. Shout out to our whole team and everybody involved, there was no big ordeal with us. Shout out Capitol Records and everybody that worked with us as far as the marketing team to the President, it’s all good people we still have a relationship with.
**You released _Music Mood 1_, what moods were you on recording these? Talk about the recording process, 38 songs is a lot.**
**Apollo:** It was a lot of songs we felt it was time to drop, before they got mixed in with the world. We felt it was relevant, also to show the inventory is this crucial. It was this fast that we had to drop 38 songs. It was necessary. Since we can, we might as well. Since it divided itself that way, it was easier. They all had their own mood, they all related to different people and different situations.
Being signed to Capitol, it was all music we’ve been working on throughout this time period. We’re signed for about a year plus with them, so all that music we had stashed up we weren’t able to release on time. It’s not even really an album, we call it a playlist because it’s set up in different moods you go through during the day. Each segment of the album is different moods people go through daily.
You’re in this mood this day, you can go straight to that portion of the album and play these 3 to 5 songs. They’ll have you in that mood, you’ll be feeling that way. If you feel like uplifting yourself, we got that. We’ve got all that stuff. It’s basically a new chapter, that’s how we make our music. It’s all chapters of our lives. If we didn’t get all this music out from this chapter, we finna move to this next shit so that music would’ve never come out. We said “let’s put this whole playlist out and let these people enjoy this music that they’ve been waiting for.”
**Talk about linking with Chanel West Coast on “Bad Bitch Demeanor,” love her!**
**All:** Ayyyye!
**Apollo:** Shout out to Chanel. We did a show with her in Houston.
**Sir Blaze:** Shout out Chanel, that’s the homie.
**Apollo:** We got a friend named Tony Dinero**,** shout out Tony. Him and Dallas Austin invited us to their pajama party, so we had our onesies on. He said “Yo, y’all want to perform?” It was Tony’s party so everybody was there. It was at his old house, we performed 2 songs there. Everybody said “yo, y’all n\*ggas is hard,” and that’s when we linked with Chanel. She said “yeah, we’ve gotta work,” so we got into the studio with her a few days later. Our relationship was built 3 years ago, it’s been 3 years since that happened. It’s how life works. You network with people and have a good relationship and try not to burn bridges. Keep working.
**Can we expect a video on the way?**
**Sir Blaze:** Oh yeah, video’s in the works.
**Rob:** Oh yeah, the video’s going to happen. We tried to shoot it in Houston because we just did a show there all together. We’re going to reschedule, it’s coming soon.
**What inspired the “Forever”visual ?**
**Blaze:** Our sister asked us to perform the song at her wedding, so we captured that whole scene. It was one take, us performing. All the families were there from different states.
**Apollo:** Blaze been around me for 15+ years, so we know each other’s grandmas on both sides. It’s family: all our grandmas, then daddy’s and mommy’s grandmas. It’s real family. We all call each other’s sisters sisters, and brothers brothers.
**What does it mean to have one of your songs play at someone’s wedding? That’s beautiful.**
**Apollo:** It was an emotional experience. It was all real, you could feel it watching the video. We shot it at my sister’s wedding. It’s funny because the song just happened to be called “Forever”, but that’s really a memory she’ll have forever.
**Rob:** A wedding recap video she’ll have forever, so it was emotional. It was beautiful.
**Blaze:** Facts!

Where do the concepts from the videos come from?**
**Blaze:** We try to be out the box, not only on the songs, but visually as well. We try to take it to another atmosphere as far as creativity.
**Apollo**: This “Yea Yea Yea” video though, this is our best video.
**Rob:** Just wait on that one! That one’s gonna be hard.
**Apollo:** Our single called “Yea Yea Yea” right now, we just shot a video. It’s crazy. Apple, Spotify, it’s out right now. But the video? It’s by far our best one.
**What can we expect?**
**Blaze:** It’s a movie. It’s a motion picture. Most of our videos have dope scenes, but this one has an actual storyline.
**Apollo:** It’s like a movie motion picture. I ain’t even gonna tell y’all, but we’re about to drop that joint.
**You each have a distinct sense of style, how would you describe it individually and as a group?**
**Blaze:** Whew, I’ma just say mine’s is loud. Just like my voice on the track, it’s loud. Soon as I come on, you know exactly who that is.
**Apollo:** I guess I’m kind of weird. That’s how I would describe my style: weird. You never know what you get.
**Rob:** Exactly, this n\*gga Apollo is in-between. He’s turnt and chill, acts like both. I’m hella smooth, for sure. Mr. Smooth Sound, I slide up on ya. \[laughs\]
**What about on the fashion tip?**
**Apollo:** Ooh, we’ve been doing a lot of editorial shoots. I can’t wait ‘till they drop, shout out to the team. We’ve been doing a lot of dope ass photoshoots. We did this one that’s crazy for this magazine.
**Blaze:** We’ve been going crazy on the fashion side, you’re going to see a lot of high fashion editorial work from us soon. We’ll be back at Fashion Week when it really opens up because that’s one of our favorite things: New York Fashion Week and Paris.

**How do you like living in Los Angeles?**
**Blaze:** It’s lovely, it’s the perfect business atmosphere for us as far as entertainment. Everybody’s out here doing something. This is a perfect market for us: fashion-wise, musically.
**Apollo:** I could put LA into a quick story. We’re supposed to be out here for 2 days. We had a meeting out here with some people. Our first day, “ah shit, this is different.” We moved from Texas to Atlanta after high school. We went to college in Atlanta. After Atlanta, we took a trip to Los Angeles. We said “we gotta go to LA.” We hadn’t been as a group. We needed to go there to see if it fit us.
Our first day, people gravitated to us. Talking to us about our fashion, telling us they love our style, so that’s something different to us already. Alright, it’s starting to feel like we belong here. Second day in LA, we meet a guy. We chop it up with him, chillin’ with him the whole day. He said “yo, I’ma come pick y’all back up and take y’all to this party.” So we do, we said “okay cool.” We didn’t believe him. We been making music for a while, and people be talking shit in this business especially. He scooped us back up, we riding in a Rolls Royce. “Okay this is cool, second day out here.”
We pull up to Mr. Chow like “why are we here?” Alright, this n\*gga’s on some weird shit. He’s telling us we’re going to a party, we’re in the back of a restaurant. There’s bodyguards there, what the hell?
**Rob:** And the restaurant’s closed. \[laughs\]
**Apollo:** We’re like “this n\*gga on some other shit.” We go in there, it’s another set of bodyguards in a private room. There’s nobody in the restaurant. He talks to the bodyguards for a minute. 2 minutes later, the bodyguards said “okay, y’all good.” Right after that, the first person we see when they open the door is Lil Wayne and Birdman. Nicki was there, Young Thug was there. It was a bunch of people. It was a small room of 20 people. It ended up being the 10th anniversary of _Carter II_ dinner.
This is our second day in LA, we’re having dinner with Wayne. After, it turned into a small party the size of a living room. People were passing out drinks. Lil Wayne handed us a blunt, we’re like “oh shit, this is crazy!” We’re bumping shoulders with Wayne.
**Rob:** Tyga was there, Keyshia Cole, Christina Milian. We’re the only ones you wouldn’t notice in the room. We’re against the wall like “oh shit!”
**Blaze:** _Carter II_ is one of my favorite albums so to be at the 10th anniversary dinner, “yeah we’re supposed to be here.” After that, we did what it took to stay out here, whether that’s sleeping on the streets, sleeping in a truck if we had one, or making our way to survive out here. Because that’s how big our goal was to us, we said “we’re not leaving unless this shit happens.” At all, we ain’t going nowhere. That’s why it’s Minus Gravity: nothing can hold you down. It wasn’t sh-t finna stop us. We went through a lot of obstacles, and we’re still going through them. That’s just life. You go through some shit, you overcome it. We ain’t folding. What’s next? Bring that shit next! I know something’s coming, I’m ready for it.
**What’s coming next for Minus Gravity?**
**Apollo:** This video. We got the “Yea Yea Yea” video dropping, the single out now. If you ain’t heard that shit, it’s crazy. Play that shit in your car, in your club. We’re turning up the summer with that song. The video’s coming soon soon. It’s crazy, make sure y’all grab that.

**Anything else you’d like to let the people know?**
**Apollo:** We want to let people know that we will not stop. We’re not gonna let anything stop or hold us down, which is the whole meaning behind our name. Minus Gravity means nothing holds you down. Gravity is negativity, and we are minus that. Y’all can expect more music on the way, definitely the “Yea Yea Yea” visual for sure. We have some remixes, we got all kinds of crazy stuff coming. ake sure you go grab that now. Shake the summer up, we’re ready.
