Dawn Richard bursts out with her follow up to “Bussifame” with a visual—or a digital simulation test, as Richard likes to put it—for her new single “Jacuzzi” off of her forthcoming album Second Line out April 30th on Merge Records. Richard, of Danity Kane and Dirty Money, brought together two other women to make a trio of dancers, herself included, that approach the choreography from three different stages in life. Aside Richard, dancing around the kitchen, on lawn chairs, and in the titular jacuzzi, is a mother of 1-year-old twins and a fitness trainer college student.

“The visual is a celebration of body positivity, that femininity and sexuality can be in any body form. What a mother moves like will be different from a young woman with no kids in the prime of her 20s. Doesn’t make her less sexy,” describes Richard of the visual. “Stretch marks, curves, blemishes, and imperfections are seen throughout the simulation. We chose to leave those unedited to showcase the beauty in the everyday woman unfiltered.”

In addition to winding up to release her sixth studio solo album, Richard has been hard at work acting (see Kinky, 5 Weddings, and Insecure) as well as developing TV, with a deal with Adult Swim that will see her developing television by Black creators. The New Orleans native doesn’t stop there, dipping her toes into gigs beyond music and acting (some of which more surprising, like cheerleading for the New Orleans Hornets or owning and operating a vegan pop-up food truck). No matter what it is, Richard approaches it with finesse.
