The early 2000’s era never seemed so relevant with Von Dutch trucker hats, studded denim, cringy boy bands and scream singing teens blasting Olivia Rodrigo’s “Good 4 U” around every corner, making Gen Z’s rock scene a hot commodity. Hailing out of Juneau, Alaska is [Shai Skye](https://www.instagram.com/shaiskyee), releasing her debut punk pop single, “PARAMOUR”—premiered today exclusively on _Flaunt_. The record itself makes listeners want to pull out their “SONGZ 4 MY EX” CD, bandana shirts, and school girl skirts to go cry in the bathroom stall like the good ol’ days! “No one makes it out of here” should be tattooed on the foreheads of most of Shai Skye’s hometown peers of Juneau, Alaska. A county composed of less than 30,000 people, it wasn’t the most motivating for the future musician to grow up in one of the most somber towns on the planet. When you dive into Shai Skye’s backstory following a troubled native Alaskan discriminated against and bullied for expressing her art, to moving to Hollywood alone at 16 years old on a limb, to, years later, teaming up with Indie super producer Justin Raisen (Kim Gordon, Charli XCX, Yves Tumor, David Bowie), you begin to believe this may actually feel like the real return of punk culture.  It’s hard enough to bring an entire era back, especially the raw, unforgiving 90s-00s punk scene, but Shai is onto something special. Shai Skye describes her single, “Paramour” as a “big F\*\*\* YOU to the boyz who play dirty” after being a secret lover herself. The fiery anthem rattles in low ends with a timeless bassline the second the audience presses play, and from there, you’re jamming out to firework melodies and addictive hooks harkening back to the Hailey Williams, Paramore and Gwen Stefani, No doubt days (some of Shai’s biggest inspirations). The rising star is Justin Raisen and indie band STEEN’s latest development, and she’s here to cut through the noise in a city that thrives on trends, clout, and inauthenticity. A classic diamond in the rough tale has taken on the new adaptation for an entire state: SHAI SKYE, here to shine through the Northern Lights and make it known that she will shine no matter what.
