The “Show Me The Signs” exhibition and auction has brought together over 100 artists in order to directly help the families of Black women killed by police. Through the signs of protest created by the artists featured, the auction will raised proceeds to go to the African American Policy Forum #SayHerName Mothers Network.
The exhibition also spans more than 90 billboards and digital kiosks across the countries largest cities including Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Cleveland, Columbus, Denver, San Antonio, Tempe, and Washington, D.C. with art from Cardi B, April Bey, Patrick Martinez, Saya Woolfalk, and many more.
“Black women and girls do not fit the most accessible frames of anti-Black police violence, and because of that, it’s difficult to tell their stories in a way that people recognize and remember,” remarks Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw, AAPF executive director and co-founder and founder of Say Her Name. “By working with the families of slain Black women, AAPF’s #SayHerName campaign resists Black women’s invisibility by telling their stories.”
The auction will be hosted in two parts by Artfizz, an online community-driven contemporary are marketplace, prior to its official launch later in the year. Part one runs from November 10th to the 19th, and Part two will run November 21st to the 30th, with all of the signs on view right now at Blum & Poe until November 14th.
