[Shy Glizzy](https://www.instagram.com/jefe/?hl=en) is far more than just a feature on GoldLink’s “Crew,” a song which earned him his first Grammy nomination ever. The explosive collaborative single (also with Brent Faiyaz) was up for Best Rap/Sung Performance at the 2018 Grammy Awards, the perfect blend of rap and R&B in one record.
Real name Marquis King hails from the streets in Southeast, Washington D.C., coming up as a young black male who’s statistics say will most likely not make it out. It wasn’t until King was arrested and locked up when he realized music would be his ticket out. Beyond that, he was able to use it as a coping mechanism to speak his truth and how he overcame the trials and tribulations that come with life.
If you’ve heard his 2014 single, “Awwsome,” you already know what type of vibe he’s on. Fast forward to 2020, the 27-year-old is chillin’ in his backyard in Los Angeles smoking on a Backwood. Quarantine life ain’t so bad when you’re Shy Glizzy, who spends his time being a father, recording, and simply enjoying life.
Flaunt caught up with Young Jefe to discuss his recent collabs, his Top 5, his fashion style, fatherhood, and more!
**How would you describe Young Jefe?**
Young boss, a big boss now. I’m making bigger moves, bigger transitions. In all capacities!
**“Do You Understand” With Gunna & Tory Lanez is one of my favorite songs of yours. How’d that come about?**
I was fucking around the lab one night. I’d just recently met Gunna around then, so I thought “let me send this to Gunna.” Then me and Tory were already in the works. He was already sending me records after records. I’m like “damn, I got a record for you.” I sent it to both of them, they were fucking with it. I ended up putting both of them on.
**Did you think Goldlink’s “Crew” would blow up to what it became?**
Hell yeah. As soon as I heard it, I knew it was out of here. That shit’s crazy. It’s not even a record like this still. From the time we released it until now, no one has put out a record that sounds like that. It was a unique sound that’s going to live forever. I was very excited when I first heard it, I knew it was an instant hit. A classic.
**How did the collab with Quando Rondo on “My Yoppa” come about?**
That’s my little bro. I fuck with Quando Rondo. We’re tough, that’s one of the guys I talk to on the daily. We’ve been rocking before we even put out some music. He’s a big fan of mine and I’m definitely a big fan of his. Him and \[NBA\] YoungBoy.
**How did you guys meet initially?**
Quando’s been showing his love, his respect. Actually, my boy Fee manages Quando. I pulled up on them one day and ever since then, we’ve been locked in.
**How did you tap in with YoungBoy?**
Fee manages Quando and Young Boy. I tapped in the same way. We pulled up on him, he pulled up on me. We connected on a whole different level. YoungBoy’s been reaching out as well, since way back to 2016 or 2017. Before the industry even knew him, he’s been reaching out. I fuck with him like that.
**Can you describe your fashion style?**
Street, luxury, elegant, exquisite. There’s so many ways to describe it. Flamboyant in a way. I don’t really like to be flashy, but I can come off as that. Because of my chains and everything else, but that’s something I like.
**You got your chains on right now?**
I just have my little piece on right now. Plain Jane, I’m just chillin’. \[Chuckles\]
**What are your favorite brands?**
Dior. Louis Vuitton. Chrome Hearts. I like eric emanuel, Don C, Warren Lotas. Undercover. Alyx. Kapital. Balenciaga. I like everything man.
**What's your go-to outfits and why?**
John Elliott for my everyday shit or Stone Island. They’re more subtle brands without a bunch of patterns, etc. Either them or anything I named above.
**Favorite hobbies outside of music?**
Shopping. Gun ranges. I like to drive fast cars. Make money, hang out on the block. I like to do a lot. Hang with girls, pretty girls.

**How old is your son now?**
My son’s 5, going on 15. \[Laughs\] He’s crazy.
**What have you learned from fatherhood?**
Everything. I learned how to be more responsible and have more patience definitely. I put my son before anything.
**What’s his favorite Shy Glizzy song?**
He likes every song. He’s been known the words. Since he was 2 years old, he sings Shy Glizzy songs. He likes my songs with YoungBoy, he’s a big fan of YoungBoy. I have 2 of them: “Bang Bang” and “Where We Come From.”
**Who’s in your Top 5?**
I’m a big Wayne fan. Wayne is the GOAT to me. Jigga. I like Eazy-E. I like Biggie, this isn’t even in order. I love Future.
