In spite of the dreamy sound, the lyrics of [The Millennial Club](https://www.instagram.com/themillennialclub/)’s newest single “Coffee In The Morning” is a wakeup stronger than any cup of joe. “Coffee in the morning / She says, ‘Baby, do you have to go?’ / A question with an answer she and I both know,” singer Andres Owens croons over a heavy synth.
The song’s heavy material is not lost on the band of early-twentysomethings (just barely scraping the millennial label which they hold so dear):
“‘Coffee In The Morning’ is about the post-honeymoon stage of a relationship. It’s the struggle of feeling like you’re no longer connected the way you once hoped to be; it’s a response to society’s way of making us feel like, ‘If you’re not happy, then move on,’” the band explains. “The song personifies the notion that there are two ways to go about struggle in a relationship: you can decide to walk away, or you can stick it out. The centerpiece of the song — ‘If it was easy, everyone would do it’ — is meant to affirm that everyone encounters hardships and ultimately, there’s reward in working through each other’s differences.”
The band, which consists of middle school friends Owens, bassist/keyboardist Jared Ortiz, guitarist/saxophonist Jake Stevenson, and drummer Tyler Kamei, has come a long way from their school jazz band days, now earning over 2.6 million Spotify streams thus far.
_Flaunt_ is pleased to premiere “Coffee In The Morning,” which offers a glimpse into TMC’s sophomore album, which is expected to arrive early 2020. Give it a listen below:
