Alexander McQueen showcased their Fall/Winter 2023 collection during Paris Fashion Week. The collection, called “Anatomy,” explores human anatomy, fashion anatomy, and the anatomy of flowers. Designed by Creative Director Sarah Burton, the pieces explore beauty and power through tailoring and tailoring fabrics, with a focus on cut, proportion and silhouette. Burton takes the foundations of fashion and the classics, and turns it on its head.
Garments are dissected, slashed, sliced, and twisted here, with strong shoulders and narrow waists. Volume is either neat and strict, or exploded. The most prominent motif in this collection is the orchid, thrives in the air, resists being rooted and grows in the wild. The orchid mimics both predator and prey, and is a symbol of love. It fits perfectly into this collection, which embraces both the structural and organic aspects of anatomy.
