Los Angeles-based sculptural artist Amiee Byrne showcased her first solo exhibition, ‘DYING BREED’ at Echo Park’s des pair books. Opening earlier last month, the installation includes a collection of ceramics—the artist’s primary medium—rendered by hand. With the intention of taking everyday objects and giving them new meaning, Byrne created a series of ceramic cigarettes. She explains, "I like to drive around and look at trash on the side of the road, deciding which abandoned object to resuscitate, honor, and elevate. For cigarettes in particular, each one has a story that only it and its human knows." The show will be on view through the end of the year, and is accompanied by a limited-edition scent titled ‘Smoker’s Kiss’ in collaboration with perfumer Emily L'Ami of BODHA.
