This past week marked the opening of Thirty Years: Written with a Splash of Blood at Blum, a milestone exhibition and celebration of the gallery's thirtieth anniversary. Co-curated by Founder, Tim Blum and postwar Japanese art historian Mika Yoshitake, the exhibition is an intergenerational survey of Japanese art from the 1960’s to present day, which will take shape across three installments at Blum's Los Angeles, Tokyo, and New York outposts.

The exhibition takes on a special significance given Blum's personal history, living, working and immersing himself in the Tokyo gallery scene during the late 1980s and 90s. More broadly, the exhibition presents snapshot of the influence that Japan and Japanese artists has had on the gallery since its founding in 1994. The exhibition features work by seminal artists and movements from Yoshitomo Nara to Susumu Koshimizu to Takashi Murakami.
