Caroline Strawson has a message for women abused and traumatized by narcissists: now is the time for post-traumatic growth. The best-selling author, speaker, and award-winning Trauma Therapist and Coach help women thrive in the wake of toxic relationships with narcissists.
She’s specially equipped for the job because she has lived through the exact issues that she’s now helping women with. Like many girls, Strawson was brought up on Disney books and fairy tales and found herself looking for her ‘happily ever after.’ “My father was emotionally unavailable, which led to me being a high-achieving, people-pleasing perfectionist to try to please him and get praise and love,” she says, “but it never came, leading me to believe that I was not good enough.”
This led her down a dark road, as she married a covert narcissist in 1999. “I did not even realize I had been in an abusive relationship, and when our marriage ended in 2011, I was a shell of myself,” she says. In debt and homeless at one point, she had PTSD, depression, anxiety, and self-harm. She even considered suicide but was spurred on to keep going by her two children.
She soon realized that talk therapy, rather than helping her deal with her issues, only made her feel worse. Her road to recovery began there, a road that has heroically ended by not only picking up the pieces of her life but thriving, and now being able to teach other women who have dealt with similar situations how to do the same.
In addition to her life experience, Strawson trained in several modalities to help her better understand the issues women like her faced and how to grow in the wake of the trauma. These include studies in domestic abuse, neuroscience and brain health, positive psychology, and many more. She’s also a breathwork teacher, and a divorce and breakup coach.
Caroline has many avenues through which she helps women recover from the trauma of dealing with a narcissist. Her podcast, Narcissistic Abuse and Trauma Recovery, has over popularly downloaded and well-rated. She leads free monthly masterclasses, with topics ranging from The Attachment Style of a Narcissist to Positive Parenting with a Narcissist.
Strawson’s trauma informed living program helps survivors of narcissistic abuse and trauma in their post-traumatic growth journey and teaches others how to do the critical work she does. She also has a free Facebook support group with over 30,000 members, a cost-friendly healing membership called Thrivers, and a YouTube channel filled with engaging resources.
