A chilled-out, mellow groove flows out of Christian Locke’s effortlessly charming “Rodeo Drive.” The slight nod to the wide-open American west reigns supreme, especially as he throws in lines about California and its allure in a way that feels so natural. Riffs roll through, for they perfectly sync up with the looseness of the drums that themselves have a genuine fervor to them. The evolution of the sound goes for an early 90s flavor, allowing a nice amount of sunshine into it. Like some long-lost summer jam, there is something exceptionally infectious about it.

The start of the song has a seductive, carefree attitude. The buildup of the rhythm section is paramount, for he makes sure to show off his impeccable guitar playing. He makes that thing sing, and the inclusion of the acoustic guitar does excellent work in bringing a nice counterpart to the relatively intense soloing he occasionally engages in. Fortunately, he strikes a balance between the hard-edged moments within the overall sense of playfulness that runs through the whole thing. Lots of it also features the vocals quite prominently, bringing the lyrics to the forefront as he expresses a degree of yearning into the entire equation. So many pieces come together for the final stretch, for the song seems to waft into the sky.

“Rodeo Drive” goes for a stunningly beautiful vista, for Christian Locke’s vocals wash over the listener, putting them into a trance.
