Picasso, Mozart, Shakespeare – throughout history, the greatest artists of our time are often known by one name alone – as if to say, ‘when you hear my name -there is no other who can compare.’ 

It can be argued that Troshin (also known by the monikers "Mister Troshin" or Dmitry to his friends) could find a place among these giants – at least, in relation to tattooing. Widely recognized as one of the premier realism tattooers, Troshin has established himself as a versatile and accomplished artist within the tattoo industry. His skills – rooted in interior design, educated by a university in Russia - encompass not only tattooing, but also sculpture, traditional mediums, and tattoo education.

His unique approach to tattooing has set him apart from his peers; his work has earned accolades and awards at varying international tattoo conventions.

His distinctive tattooing style (dubbed #3rlonly, which uses only a single, extremely fine grouping of needles) has been emulated and utilized by hundreds of artists globally since he popularized it. This unparalleled attention to detail has lead to year-long waiting lists, invitations to guest spots at the most prestigious studios domestic and abroad, and clients willing to fly around the world for a chance at a few hours in his chair.

Troshin's artistic style has evolved over the years, and as he found what worked best for him, he specializes in two particular fields – ultra realistic renderings of classical art such as sculptures, paintings, and architecture – or, as if from magic, he is able to use peoples’ ideas and life experiences to create a bespoke composition tailored to the client’s wishes.

Teaching himself through trial and error, Troshin began tattooing in August of 2012. He was born in Moscow, Russia, but emigrated to the United States in pursuit of his dreams – to become a master of tattooing.

He is driven by the boundless possibilities available to artists here to create and disseminate their ideas to a worldwide audience, as well as the opportunities for travel, networking, and collaboration that come with being at the heart of modern tattooing. 

In his own words, Troshin says that he is "motivated by the vast potential for artists, with the help of the internet and with social acceptance of the tattooing arts, to produce and circulate their concepts on a global scale. It is a driving force for me to be influenced by and around creative, open minded, and talented people.”

The key to his success, other than a work ethic that would put a marathon runner to shame, is his dedication to personal and professional growth. His short-term and long-term aspirations are aligned, revolving around educating those who wish to learn to tattoo how to do it properly (as to influence the next generation of tattooers), as well as cultivating opportunities to work with notable individuals and brands while expanding on and demonstrating his constantly evolving style.

Recently, Troshin made headlines by creating a new format in which to display his talent – a silicone figure of basketball superstar LeBron James. What makes this unique is that it is tattooed with over 50 hours of highly detailed work – each stroke and line a message from Lebron’s history, woven into a tapestry of his life. (see more here)

Additional upcoming collaborations include a shoe collaboration with the legendary ShoeSurgeon, using a similar hand tattooed silicone to create a unique shoe design.
