On October 10th, non-profit organization, The Brant Foundation, hosted Dom Pérignon for the unveiling of their special edition Vintage 2015. The launch celebrated Jean-Michel Basquiat’s legacy, honoring his impactful work over the years and his impact on the 80s Neo-expressionism movement. The release features three box designs, crafted toward the principle of assemblage, which was one Basquiat held dear. When assembled next to each other, the three coffrets create a more thorough image of Basquiat’s painting. The packaging is a colorful burst of maturity, with an ever-present artistic flair, centering the iconic sketched three-branched crown symbol of the Jean-Michel Basquiat brand. These crowns are superimposed in yellow, lime green, and mint blue on the bottle’s shield.
Dom Pérignon excelled at creating an immersive experience, with the interior and exterior of the release painting a full-fledged story of expressiveness that was brought beautifully into fruition by the celebration’s energetic list of events, the atmospheric locations, and the high prominence of the partygoers. In addition to inviting Basquiat’s close friends and family, The Brant Foundation hosted a dynamic ensemble of artists and creatives. The exclusive NYC party transformed the East Village into a starstudded locale, with guests like Zoë Kravitz, Natasha Lyonne, and Luka Sabbat.
The champagne house kicked off the night with a vibrant display of Basquiat’s 1983 painting, In Italian, which heavily inspired the artwork and design of the special edition Vintage 2015 bottle. Following this, Moroccan-born artist, Maripol brought the audience on a journey through the exuberance of her photographic archives. With shockingly picturesque polaroids of Jean-Michel Basquiat, Madonna, and Andy Warhol, Maripol has long been referred to as a reigning force in the realm of candid 80s artistry. A walking beacon of her time, Maripol snapped live polaroids of the night’s attendees.
At a NYC club, the invitees swayed to a live jazz performance by Onyx Collective. Then, they moved to the rhythm of DJ Justin Strauss, capturing the essence of the spirited musical scene and artistic culture of the landscape that so inspired the works of Jean-Michel Basquiat. With his profound influence at the forefront of this launch, Dom Pérignon deliberately melded artistic endurance with the pursuit of creative brilliance, as Basquiat always did.
