Board-Certified plastic surgeons are the only way to be. With many excellent plastic surgeons, the natural choice primarily comes from personality. On the more technical side of things, the importance of picking a plastic surgeon over a cosmetic surgeon is essential. Cosmetic surgeons can provide many procedures; however, they differ from plastic surgeons in one critical way – training. Unlike plastic surgeons, cosmetic surgeons undergo a lot less training. Often doctors trying to get into the field of plastic surgery will take up the cosmetic surgery banner to break into the area. This is important to look for when deciding which doctor to use, as plastic surgeons (especially board-certified) undergo much more intense training.

Due to the popularity of social media, another way a person can find an excellent plastic surgeon is to do research. While this is essential in selecting any doctor, a few unique elements make this particularly important in plastic surgery. One of the easiest ways to do that is to look at before and after photos. This gives a new meaning: “a picture is worth a thousand words.” For one, it allows a pretty easy gauge of the plastic surgeon’s specialty, their skill level, and the results one can expect. Since doctors usually put this up on their websites and social media, it is excellent to determine whether or not this is the right approach.

Besides finding the right burrito place, online reviews can also be used for plastic surgeons. This allows an individual to whittle down their pool of potential doctors. Considering the amount of money spent on these procedures, anyone needs to dive deeply into research before taking that final plunge under the knife. Allowing this lots of time also avoids risks further down the line. Not all procedures are permanent or the same, so doing this legwork is essential. It helps to figure out what specialty is most desired and which is the specialty of the plastic surgeon under consideration.

After all of this has been done, multiple consultations are required. This further narrows down the potential pool of doctors. While researching can help, sitting down with the doctor and the staff to determine the best fit makes the most sense. Even excluding the cost factor, this is a highly personal choice, and to feel most at ease with it, it is essential to feel at ease with the doctor ultimately selected. More than one consultation is needed. Multiple consults allow for a broader look at the field to ensure that the best possible choice is made.
