In a world where fashion often races to keep up with fleeting trends, Scoliosy takes a different path—one that’s deeply personal, profoundly reflective, and refreshingly authentic.
The brand’s journey began not in the bustling streets of New York City, but within the designer’s own body. Living with scoliosis, a condition that curves the spine in ways that challenge the norms of the human form, Scoliosy’s creative director Jiayi Che found herself constantly adapting, both physically and mentally. This condition, which many might view as a limitation, became the very foundation of her creativity. “For me, scoliosis is more than just a diagnosis,” Che reflects. “It’s a part of my identity, something that has shaped not only my body but also my perspective on beauty and design.” This perspective breathes into every piece of Scoliosy’s collection, where the fluidity of the human form is celebrated, not constrained.
Scoliosy’s latest fashion campaign “Product Shots” series, which will be released in early 2025, explores diverse narratives that highlight the brand's versatility. Featuring clothing pieces that appear to “float” atop the model, this series depicts the endless possibilities of wearing, styling, and creating with Scoliosy in various settings. It reflects a multifaceted view of the world and the era that surrounds the brand.
Drawing inspirations from the vibrant and tumultuous American culture during the 1960s to the present day, the collection taps into an era when fashion was a form of intimate expression, a statement of identity, and a canvas for creativity. “The sixties resonate with me,” Che admits. “They were all about breaking boundaries, something I strive to do with Scoliosy’s designs.” The “Product Shots” series is a vivid visual and emotional journey, taking us from office settings to the beach, cocktail parties to massage houses. The clothing’s color palette ranges from mystic pastels of youth to the earthy tones of adulthood, with each piece inviting us into a daily occasion we can all relate to.
This collection offers several ready-to-wear items that put a twist on classic designs. The wrinkled polka dot skirt stands out, alongside pieces featuring irregularly pleated fabric effects. For example, silk and acetate—traditionally seen as epitomes of smoothness and elegance—are intentionally crinkled by the designer, paired with polka dot flocking to create a new texture. These "imperfections" become symbols of life’s fascination with the flawed. A bias-cut slip dress and a low-waisted dress are updated with modern geometric seams. For Scoliosy, this is more than just an aesthetic choice, but also a design strategy.
