As the music industry begins to search for the next Latin breakout star, I find myself wondering why there is nobody looking at Mexico?
After a brief conversation with some of the most important figures in shaping pop music as we now know it - Phoenix Stone, and Sybil Hall (who literally created the playbook by which boybands like One Direction and BTS have now followed), I found myself meeting Fede Dorcaz, who has silently (at least to the American Labels who seem to have missed him...) begun to take the latin music industry by storm in his largest two markets - Mexico and Brazil, as 2024 comes to a close.
He has achieved milestone after milestone in the beginings of a career that shows no signs of slowing down. From chart-topping hits to sold-out live performances and red-carpet appearances, Dorcaz is redefining what it means to be a Latin pop star when the recording industry seems to have a blind spot. His year has been marked by a series of remarkable accomplishments, including 10 sold out concerts across Mexico, the release of his deeply personal album Instinto, six visually stunning music videos, and standout appearances at major awards shows like Premios Lo Nuestro, Premios Juventud, and the Kid’s Choice Awards. His presence has captivated audiences across Mexico, and he has made hits like “No Eres Tú” reaching 5 million streams and “Cara Bonita” landing in the Top 10 on Mexican radio.
A Year Defined by Passion and Milestones
At the heart of Dorcaz’s remarkable year is his album Instinto, a deeply personal collection of nine tracks recorded in Los Angeles. Inspired by his own life experiences, the album has been lauded for its introspective lyrics and captivating melodies. Produced alongside these industry experts - namely Phoenix Stone & Sybil Hall, who have worked with icons like the Backstreet Boys, Instinto showcases Dorcaz’s evolution as both an artist and storyteller. To enhance the album’s impact, he released six visually stunning music videos that bring the songs to life, blending cinematic artistry with emotional depth.
On the live stage, Dorcaz’s performances have been equally impressive. He embarked on a tour of 10 concerts across Mexico - which all sold out - in cities like Campeche, Puebla, Nuevo León, Mérida, and Mexico City. His electrifying stage presence and ability to connect with fans created unforgettable moments at every show. Beyond live performances, his singles have made waves in the Latin community. “No Eres Tú” surpassed 5 million streams just in Argentina alone, while “Cara Bonita” quickly reached 1.2 million streams within its first month and climbed into the Top 10 on Mexican radio.
Dorcaz’s achievements extend beyond music, as his presence at prestigious award ceremonies has cemented his role as a cultural icon. He has been celebrated at Premios Lo Nuestro in Miami, Premios Juventud in Puerto Rico, and both the Elliot Awards and Kid’s Choice Awards in Mexico City. Dorcaz also served as both host and performer at the Tu Awards. Meanwhile, his media appearances have amplified his voice, with interviews in top outlets across Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey, as well as features on Mexico’s most prominent TV programs. This media spotlight has further deepened his connection with fans and expanded his influence across Mexico and Latin America.
The Future of Latin Music - Will it come from Mexico?
With his authentic voice, bold creativity, and deep connection to his audience, Dorcaz is ready to reshape the landscape of Latin music. But why have the major labels not been looking there yet?
As 2024 comes to a close , one thing is clear: Fede Dorcaz isn’t just an artist to watch—he’s an artist at the forefront of the what could be the next evolution of the Latin Pop Music scene.
