The Ferragamo Fall/Winter 2023 collection is an ode to old Hollywood, as creative director Maximilian Davis imagines and re-imagines 1950s cinematic aesthetics through a modern lens. In the collection, mid-century silhouettes are explored with linear precision as a ball skirt is done in optic white nylon, and a cocoon cut adopted from fifties couture is applied to a cropped technical bomber and shirting. Exotic prints taken from the archives are scanned and distorted on shearling, leather, and ponyskin accessories to make them feel like heirlooms. Elements of bikers’ and greaser wardrobes are also interspersed throughout the collection in leather and coated metallic denim.
Davis referenced the glamorous styles of movie stars like Sophia Loren and Marilyn Monroe to create something with alien-like futurism. This contrast can be seen as scarf dressing and Renaissance draped details meet the high-octane, fetishistic glamour of shimmering lamé minidresses and patent leather.
“This is my take on what people from the 50s would think of the future,” said Davis.
