This Spring and Summer, Ferragamo is taking a deep dive into the intersections between designer Maximilian Davis and Ferragamo’s histories through his ballet inspired designs. Marked by its moveable designs, flowy fabrics, and ballooning silhouettes, the collection lends itself to the grace and freedom of its artistic inspirations.
Typical of Ferrgamo’s designs, the collection also pays homage to Davis’ personal history, featuring the pointy styles of the angular Eva pump, laced up to the calf with matte silk ribbons; a callback to his relationship with iconic dancers such as Rudolf Nureyev and Katherine Dunham, who flaunted custom Ferragamo ballerina shoes in the 1980s.
The collection features an organic and minimalistic color-scheme, beiges, blacks, whites, greens, and brick reds at the forefront. Themes of Ferragamo history and dance are complemented by Davis’ cultural background. Frayed and stonewashed denim, organic forms, rubber jelly moccasins, raw finishes, and raised hemlines imbue the collection with an air of the Caribbean.
Even with the collection’s heavy inspiration from different historical events and movements, expressions of the Ferragamo brand are discreetly present. The brand’s monogram appears through a sustainable line of stonewashed denim jacquard and perforated satchel bags, while intricately woven leather Gancini forms come together to create a textured opera coat.
The full collection comes together to tell a visual story: one of Davis, Ferragamo, and the cultural influences the brand has played a part in throughout the years.
