Galerie Noir, the flagship store of South Korean fashion house Songzio, has created its own take on Yin and Yang, known as Order Disorder. The new store embodies the coexistence of dualism in every element of its architecture. The interior balances light with darkness, curves with angles, mass with division, classical with avant garde.
Galerie Noir’s building is a 20th century classicist architectural style that mimics radical modernist thinking. The old and new are powerfully weaved together in the structure and design of the building.
The store, a new arts and fashion space for the brand, opened this month in Dosan park where Songzio opened its first flagship store in 1993. This area was the creative center of Seoul, bursting with culture, vibrancy and an inexplicable balance of energy and tranquility. The new store seamlessly integrates a contemporary art gallery with Songzio’s existing flagship location.
Songzio’s creative philosophy as a brand stems from their unique process in which a large canvas of each season’s inspirations, ideas and emotions are painted on to and a collection is subsequently designed after. Galerie Noir is a step by step demonstration of the meticulous steps this process requires. The beginning, the end and everything in between is beautifully illustrated in this new store. The brand decided to name the gallery after its most symbolic color, black. Central to every element of the natural world, black remains ever present yet unexplored, boundless and infinitely complex.
The space hosts regular exhibitions for internally renowned artists in addition to the brand’s own unique works including paintings, drawings, media art and sculptures. The convergence of fashion and art is yet another endeavor in Songzio’s experimental profile. The brand has expanded to a menswear line, youth collections, ready to wear fashion and now Galerie Noir. Songzio’s seemingly endless duality of designs and concepts unequivocally brings to life the concept of Order Disorder.
