Gentle Monster opens its largest flagship store at The Galleria in Houston, Texas this May at 4,800 square feet, marking another milestone in the Korean brand’s expansion in retail spaces throughout the US. The store features surrealist objects, installations, and videos, creating a cutting-edge spirited universe within its walls. Art pieces include a six-legged, walking mechanical creature entitled “The Probe,” a nine-foot tall Giant Head robot covered in human-like skin, and a large kinetic head that makes slight movements and blinks, exuding a hyper-realistic face of a human giant. The artistic decisions of these pieces blurs the line between an artistic space and a retail space, while emphaisizing the ever-evolving relationship between humans and robots, and inventing a new future for the norm of retail spaces.
