Iconic Parisian brand Givenchy revealed their Fall/Winter 2023 women’s ready-to-wear collection at the École Militaire at Paris Fashion Week. With the collection, creative director Matthew M. Williams balances the old and the new–finding inspiration in both the principles founded by Hubert de Givenchy and the dressing culture of the arts-driven community of women that surrounds him today.
The collection investigates contrasting structures and fabrics as the relaxed body language of sweats and denim fabrics are translated to unstructured cashmere coats and jackets, wool trousers, cashmere knits, and stretchy leather jackets. In line with contemporary fashion, layered pieces are composed from baggy sweats, delicate jersey tops, cargo pieces, bondage garments, felpa skirts, and kilts.
In evening wear, fish motifs and flower motifs represent a study of imagery, appearing in ruched dresses with trains and chainmail dresses constructed from bands that twist around the body. The collection also features evening gowns embroidered with micro-floral nylon appliqué and a dress with voluminous black triangle tulle built on a corset, pleated by hand.
