The new year has begun and for many, that means that pride month is only a few months away. For businesses, advocacy groups, and pride organizers, now is the time to start planning for this epic celebration that takes place all over the world. Pride often features parades, celebrations, performances, and events during the month of June to commemorate the historical Stonewall riot where trans and gay community members were forced to defend their right to space. Pride is a celebration of inclusion, individuality, and making space for everyone in this world to experience joy. Because of this, preparing for pride month may look a lot different for each individual. To help inspire those looking to start prepping now, take a look at this list of potentially inspiring ideas for individuals, businesses, and organizations alike to start prepping for this epic month!

Tattoo Care

Tattoos are a profound tool for expression, especially among youth and queer communities. Now is the perfect time to get new tattoos as well since the weather is still fairly cold and the likelihood of taking part in summer activities like swimming or donning skimpy clothing are low. If you plan on getting new tattoos this season to show off during summer pride parades, look into tattoo care by Mad Rabbit for your aftercare needs.

Start Discussions at Work

Workplace environments are tricky when it comes to political and social issues. We always run the risk of mixing different ideas and upbringings in our place of work. When you are unsure how to bring a topic of conversation to the table, it can be helpful to make use of games that act like virtual icebreakers by Bar None Games to help ease any awkwardness that may arise when beginning to have these conversations at work. It’s important for businesses to discuss how they plan to celebrate and get perspective from their team members, especially if the management and ownership at your company are not members of the community.

Come Up With Fun Slogans

A big part of celebrating pride is taking part in the parades and marches, which means you will want to brainstorm with your friends to come up with unique and fun slogans to put on posters during these celebrations. When trying to come up with fun phrases and words, it can be really useful to use a random word generator hosted by The Word Counter to generate new and interesting word combinations you may not have thought of before!

Upgrade Your Wardrobe

Style plays a big part of any pride celebration, so you’ll want to be prepared ahead of time! Unique Graphic T-shirts from Emazing Group offer a great selection of unique designs for anyone's individual taste. These are great designs to be worn on their own or crafted into a unique pride costume that no one else will have this coming pride month. Pride is about showing your unique style, so upgrade your wardrobe ahead of time and make sure you have the most unique look in your local parade!

Prepare a Performance

For some, preparing for pride means preparing a performance! If it’s a musical one, you may want to get access to the tools you’ll need to stay in tune and sound great for the entire show. The new, interactive guitar tuner by Ubisoft is the perfect solution. Along with a sleek, state of the art visual interface you’ll get access to lessons and play along tracks that can help players at any level get some extra daily practice in.

Take Care of Your Skin

Before the weather warms up and pride celebrations begin, it’s important to take care of your skin so you are prepared to be out in the sun. Vitamins for Clear Skin by JSHealth will help fortify your skin from the inside out. Skin care isn’t just about the topical products you use to moisturize and clean your skin, it also has a great deal to do with the nutrients and vitamins we put into our body. Take better care of your skin this spring to feel more excited about getting out in the sunshine in a few months.

Pride Flags

Of course, one of the best ways to prepare for pride month is to celebrate it all year long! You can do this by claiming your free pride flag from pride palace! Looking through their options, there are flags for any and all forms of pride you want to express this coming season. From all inclusive rainbow flags to more specific denominations like trans, non-binary, asexual, and demisexual. There are even flags for the bear community! So get yours while you still can so you aren’t the only one on your block without a pride flag to display.

Support Queer Owned Business

At the end of the day, one of the best things you can do to celebrate pride month is to support queer owned businesses as often as you can. And what better way to do so in preparation for June than by purchasing makeup from Fluide, a queer owned cosmetic company that makes products for everyone, regardless of their gender or orientation. This is a great way to support the economy of the community and get other people shopping with queer owned businesses.

Conclusion

Shopping for pride related products and with businesses that are queer owned is a great way to celebrate pride, but in reality we should be doing that all year long. Capitalism is capitalism and there’s no version of it that helps every community. That’s just the unfortunate truth. The best thing one can to do prepare and continue celebrating all year long is by organizing, spreading awareness, and participating with local organizations to help LGBTQ youth get access to things like gender affirming care, work experience, and community.
