Interior, an exhibition brought about by a multi-generational group of artists, opened at London’s Michael Werner Gallery. The exhibition features an array of ceramics, paintings, and sculptures—all curated by renowned curator Andrew Bonanica. However, different in their own way, each work featured in the exhibition shares the same underlying intention—to capture the interior lives of their respective subjects.
Interiority, as the exhibition’s name suggests, lays at the forefront of the works featured. Be it psychological, biological, or architectural, the pieces manage to bring about the very essence of their subjects. Portraits “Young Woman in a Red Shawl” by Gwen John and “Portrait of a Woman with Red Hair (Coquette)” by Austin Osman Spare deliver captivating, beguiling representations, whereas sculpture “Eule” by Nairy Baghramian delivers a delicate, air-personified offering.
Featured artists include Kai Althoff, Frank Auerbach, Nairy Baghramian, Enrico David, Jake Grewal, Gwen John, Christina Kimeze, Stanislava Kovalcikova, Florian Krewer, Janette Laverrière, Gilbert Lewis, Hilary Lloyd, Anne Low, Victor Man, Julien Nguyen, Francis Picabia, Walter Price, Raphaela Simon, Austin Osman Spare, Anita Steckel, Mary Stephenson, Angus Suttie, Félix Vallotton, Édouard Vuillard, Willa Wasserman, and Lionel Wendt.
'Interior' will be on view through February 4th, 2023.
