Jamie Miller's debut album, Long Way Home, is a great collection of songs but also a deeply personal, almost confessional project. On his road from being a small-town boy to an international music sensation, Miller got a bit lost in the culture shock of moving halfway across the world, and this album invites listeners to join him on his journey back to himself. "I wanted to be real, for once," Miller says about his writing process. "I wanted to give my fans everything." He means it. "This album represents something I've been waiting for a long time to talk about," says Miller. "Coming from a small town, moving across the world to follow my dreams came with a little bit of culture shock, and I felt like I lost myself in the process."
Even with LA's celebratory music scene, Miller was suddenly thrust into situations he had never imagined, such as hanging out with people you never thought he'd know. Miller felt his sense of self shrinking away.
This loss, however, sparked a period of self-discovery, beautifully captured in tracks like "Better By Myself." The upbeat, hopeful song reflects Miller's realization that he was changing himself to please others. After stepping away," he shares, "I realized that I was truly better by myself."
This newfound independence did not come easy. Miller credits therapy for helping him shift his focus, especially in his music. Instead of chasing viral lyrics, he digs deep and lets his listeners hear the raw emotion in his heart. The result is an album that feels less like a carefully curated playlist and more like a friend's heartfelt confession mixed with upbeat tracks and his signature soulful ballads.
Long Way Home isn't all moody introspection and healing. The album is also a celebration of the roots that ground him. The title track is a love letter to Miller's family and upbringing. "I grew up with the most amazing family," he says affectionately. "We didn't have a big house or a lot of money, but it was because I had a lot of love and such a strong foundation with my parents and my sisters."
One of the album's standout tracks is "Every Lifetime," a collaboration with multi-Grammy Award winner Tori Kelly. For Miller, Who grew up watching Kelly on YouTube, this collaboration is a dream come true. "I honestly don't know how it happened," he marvels. "The stars were aligned at the right time. She listened to the song and loved it. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity to work with her."
From small-town beginnings to over a billion global streams, Miller's rise has been incredible. He has earned the praise of industry heavyweights and fellow artists, including Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, and Sam Smith. Despite the glowing reception, Miller remains focused on authenticity over accolades.
"I took the long way home to find myself," says Miller. For fans old and new, the album offers 14 tracks of soul-stirring melodies and emotional ballads. It is Miller's way of inviting listeners to join him in his self-discovery and maybe learn something about themselves, song by song.
