Junghans’ fascination with aviation is alive and well, as exemplified by their launch of three new watch models: two different versions of the Meister Pilot Chronoscope and the new Meister Pilot Automatic.
Junghans has been producing mechanical cockpit clocks since the early 1900s, which played a crucial role in airships and airplanes as vital navigation instruments, assisting in measuring flight duration. In the 1950s, Junghans achieved another significant milestone by creating its inaugural wristwatch designed specifically for pilots in collaboration with the newly formed Bundeswehr (German armed forces). This introduction marked the birth of their legendary pilot chronograph, which has retained its iconic status up to the present day.
The latest Meister Pilot models possess an authentic and contemporary design that draws inspiration from their renowned predecessor. The dial and watch case create a striking contrast against the luminous numerals and hands, ensuring excellent legibility even in challenging lighting conditions. The addition of highlighted seconds and chronograph hands, accompanied by an artificial horizon display from three to nine o'clock, further accentuates the instrument-like quality of these timepieces. The bidirectional turning bezel, featuring twelve concave recesses, allows for precise adjustments, even when wearing gloves, and contributes to the expressive aesthetics of the Meister Pilot. The historical logo displayed on the dial serves as a testament to the watchmaker's aeronautical heritage. To withstand unexpected turbulence, the Meister Pilot is equipped with a DLC-coated case that provides water resistance of up to 10 bar, a domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflection coating on both sides, and a strap reinforced with riveted and through bar tacks.
Just like the pilot chronograph designed for the Bundeswehr, the Meister Pilot Chronoscope offers a dependable stopwatch function for accurate flight duration measurement. The Meister Pilot Chronoscope Navy Blue version, with its distinctive navy blue color and a hand-drawn nose art engraving on the case back, pays tribute to the renowned North American Curtiss P-40 from the history of the US Air Force. Limited to only 300 exclusive collector's pieces, it captures the essence of this legendary aircraft. On the other hand, for those seeking a purely adventurous spirit, the Meister Pilot Chronoscope Desert model showcases a sand-colored dial and a brown-black case, evoking a sense of desert exploration and ruggedness.
