Lindsey Coffey's path to the fashion industry began in an unexpected place: a Rhode Island mall, where she was scouted at the age of 12. Despite the opportunity, Coffey initially prioritized her education and athletic pursuits over a modeling career. "I never did [contact her], as I was focused on school and playing sports at the time," she recalls. It wasn't until high school that Coffey began reaching out to agencies online, but her efforts were largely met with rejection. Even when she experienced a small breakthrough, it wasn't quite her moment.

"I almost gave up," Coffey admits, but in college, she decided to give it one last try by visiting New York City. Armed with a hastily assembled portfolio and staying in a hostel, Coffey visited as many go-sees as possible during her trip. "That week, I finally had my moment and left NY signed," she shares. Since then, her career in fashion has taken off, and she's been on a journey filled with growth and discovery.

However, Coffey's success extends beyond the runway. After winning Miss Earth in 2020, she harnessed her platform to champion environmental causes and advocate for a sustainable fashion industry. Collaborating with organizations like the World Wildlife Fund, Remake, and Greenpeace, she continues to raise awareness and inspire action for a more eco-conscious future. "Miss Earth gave me the confidence to pursue my activism to its full potential," Coffey explains. Through her work in lobbying, public speaking, and grassroots initiatives, she is at the forefront of the fight for climate justice and the rights of garment workers.

Coffey acknowledges the strides made by the fashion industry toward sustainability, noting the shift towards circular designs and the use of renewable energy and earth-friendly materials. She praises the industry's embrace of sustainability as a trend, citing innovative textiles and concepts entering stores. Extended Producer Responsibility policies are also being integrated into business models, which Coffey sees as a positive shift. "Although changes unfold slower than we'd prefer, slow progress is still progress," she asserts.

When it comes to her personal style, Coffey values locally made, sustainable pieces from farmers' markets as well as inclusive brands like Reformation, E.L.V. Denim, and Pangaia. "I absolutely love farmers markets, where I find locally made boutique items," she says. This approach not only supports local artisans but also contributes to the sense of exclusivity in her wardrobe. Her simple makeup routine features mascara, blush, and concealer, and she relies on bold lip colors for a pop of confidence. "My go-to look is super simple. I only use three things: mascara, blush, and concealer," she reveals.

Coffey's goals extend beyond her own career; she aims to educate and inspire others to take action for the planet. Her focus on collaboration and community engagement demonstrates her commitment to creating a thriving, self-sustaining world. "My goal is to heal, spread light, and raise our environmental consciousness to create a thriving, just, and self-sustaining world," she says. Whether through her work as Miss Earth or her advocacy efforts, Coffey's journey is one of resilience, purpose, and a passion for positive change.
