For her fashion brand's latest line, designer Maisie Schloss embarked on a creative journey guided by a single, evocative word: tactile. After years of digital design, Schloss found herself yearning for a more hands-on approach, one that would breathe new life into her creative process and, ultimately, her designs. This desire for tangible creation led Schloss to adopt an improvisational methodology. The result is Maisie Wilen’s Spring-Summer 2025 Collection, a vibrant exploration of texture and form.
“After ten seasons designing completely digitally, I couldn’t sit at my computer any longer. I craved working with my hands,” Schloss shares.
At its essence, the collection celebrates the integration of unique materials and unconventional construction techniques. Schloss's kinesthetic method is evident in her usage of unique textures like vintage beads, raffia, yarn and plaster. These elements aren't mere embellishments; they're integral to the collection's identity, informing both the silhouettes and the overall aesthetic of each garment.
The designer's experimental spirit shines through in her reimagining of Maisie Wilen's signature perforated knits. Once known primarily as skin-tight basics, these pieces have been transformed through asymmetrical reconstructions, breathing new life into a brand staple and showcasing Schloss's evolution.
The collection also includes designs ideated in collaboration with Human Powered Health’s Tour de France Femmes cycling team. Maisie Wilen prints were used to create limited-edition jerseys worn by cyclists as they raced across France, representing a unique intersection of high fashion and high-performance sportswear. Schloss is the first designer of women's fashion to debut her garments in the pro peleton.
