International TV production is a sought-after field in the entertainment industry. However, to become part of a top tier crew, it takes zeal, commitment, and perseverance. Join acclaimed TV producer Matt McInnis as he takes you on a behind-the-scenes journey of his experiences producing major international television series in various locations, including New York, Los Angeles, London, and Cape Town. McInnis offers insights into the intricacies and excitement involved in producing genre television on a global scale.

McInnis has produced some of the most highly regarded and beloved series, including Marvel Television's Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and The Defenders. He has also worked on the worldwide sensation, The Witcher franchise. When McInnis was nine, he was a huge fan of The X-Files. He had a neighbor who was a producer on the show in Vancouver, Canada, so he went to his house and asked if he could be in the series. The producer brought him in as an extra, and from that moment, seeing behind the scenes how a massive show is made, McInnis knew this was what he wanted to do with his life.

"I wanted to work to make other people feel the way I felt while watching some of my favorite stories unfold on television," McInnis says. That nine-year-old boy has now produced major international television series on location in New York, Los Angeles, London, Iceland, Cape Town, Toronto, and Vancouver.

McInnis is a proud Producers Guild of America and Television Academy member who votes for the Emmys and the PGA awards. He takes great pride in his journey, starting at the bottom as a producer's assistant in Smallville. "It is what you make of it. If you want to enter the industry, don't be afraid to roll up your sleeves and start at the bottom," he says.

"Hard work is recognized, and being a team player is highly rewarded," McInnis states. He notes that entertainment is one of the last apprenticeship industries, and there is no straight line or right way to get into the game. "Becoming an assistant is the best thing that could have happened to me," he adds. McInnis also emphasizes that kindness is paramount.

Focusing on the future, McInnis's dreams and aspirations center around representation and inclusivity. "Representation and inclusivity are hugely important to me personally," he says. He aims to do all he can to further inclusion and create content where everyone sees themselves represented meaningfully. "I want to do all I can to further inclusion and create content," he adds.

Matt McInnis' journey in international TV production inspires and provides insights into what it takes to succeed in the entertainment industry. Hard work, dedication, kindness, and a passion for genre television are at the heart of his success. McInnis continues to push boundaries in his pursuit to create content that is both entertaining and inclusive.
