Luxury fashion house MCM has just debuted their first ever-men’s fragrance–and yeah, it looks like the backpack. MCM ONYX Eau de Parfum. An homage to its namesake, MCM ONYX inspires passion, power, and achievement. A woody fougère from the near-future, it’s a result of marrying luxury technique with advanced-tech perfumery meant to foster confidence and strengthen inner convictions. Inspired by the brand’s classic Stark backpack, MCM reinvented the original MCM award–winning bottle design in a modern, concentrated colorway–black and dark gray Visetos with accents of gunmetal. 

The MCM ONYX scent is brimming with fresh ginger, pink pepper and grapefruit, a captivating scent that carries earthy notes but remains smooth. At its heart, ONYX is defined by the crisp aromatic quality of lavender, which blurs the lines between fresh and floral. The woody tones of ONYX radiate with warmth, enhanced by a long-lasting minerality that complements its overall scent. Senior Perfumer Clément Gavarry of Firmenich, artisan of the fragrance, said, “When I was working on MCM ONYX, I wanted to ensure it captured the essence of freedom in a fresh and modern way. The scent’s effervescent notes of spices and ginger, along with fresh lavender and warm woods encapsulate the feeling of being unstoppable.”

MCM ONYX’s formula is vegan, and prides itself on its responsibility. The formula is made of over 79% biodegradable ingredients and over 89% of its ingredients are created using green chemistry principles – both key for a more sustainable fragrance future. Over 72% of its sustainably sourced Naturals Together™ ingredients make a positive social impact on local communities all over the world. The ginger is handpicked by Nigerian farmers between October and November, before being transported to local cooperatives who cut, wash and cold store the plant for conservation. The lavender is sourced from Provence, France, where a diversification program was developed to ensure higher and more consistent income for the farmers who pick the lavender just before it blooms. 

MCM, always one to push the envelope of reality, has embarked on a new journey into the Metaverse. The ONYX campaign was created using groundbreaking GC technology, actually rendering the graphics through a game engine. Jean Madar, Chairman and CEO, Inter Parfums, Inc. stated, "The partnership between Inter Parfums and MCM continues to innovate with this third addition to the transformative MCM fragrance collection, supported by yet another revolutionary campaign. MCM ONYX will be available starting April 2023 in MCM boutiques and on mcmworldwide.com, with a global launch planned for May 2023.
