There are not many things that beat the feeling of a pen gliding errorlessly across paper. It’s an experience that Montblanc, the German luxury brand that’s been pumping out finely crafted pens and leather accessories for over a century, knows well. For decades, the Maison’s high quality products, especially their pens, has made them greatly valued—no, venerated—by offices and high powered business people around the world.

Perhaps one of the only things that can surpass the feeling of using a good pen is the feeling of putting on an incredible perfume. As their iconic Meisterstück pen turns 100 years old, the company is releasing an exclusive collection of four fragrances—in celebrating the old, Montblanc moves forward with the new.

On July 13, the German luxury brand hosted a special fragrance workshop event at the Montblanc Chalet Pop Up on Rodeo Drive to uncover the history, structure and development of perfumes and to give attendees a sneak peek of the new Montblanc Collection.

Each perfume is stunningly on theme. Encased in 125 ml bottles shaped like Montblanc glass ink bottles and topped with a black lacquer cap, the four scents were created with the pillars of the company in mind. Each one pays tribute to the physical components that have remained integral to the German company for over a century: ink, leather, the Meisterstück, and the mountains the Maison calls home.

Patchouli Ink is a heady mix of Indonesian Patchouli, coriander seeds and jasmine petals softened with vanilla and white musk. The muskiness in Extreme Leather comes from ambrette, which pairs with the scent of iris to create a fragrance reminiscent of soft luxurious leather. Black Meisterstück gives an olfactory nod to Montblanc’s famous pen with its combination of incense, nutmeg, ginger, and precious wood. The final scent, Vetiver Glacier—meant to call to mind the icy peaks of Mont Blanc, the company's source of inspiration and its emblem—-contains crisp notes of black currant and lavandin and diverges into earthy aromas of bergamot and sandalwood.

Montblanc’s rich heritage, innovative spirit, and decades of committed craftsmanship are instantly recognizable with a spritz of any of their four timeless scents  Although participant’s in last week’s workshop were able to sample the Montblanc Collection, the exclusive line will be released in August.
