The grand Wu Tsai Theater at David Geffen Hall was alive with a symphony of celebration. Co-chaired by Dr. Kathryn Beal, Karen and Richard LeFrak, Joan and Joel I. Picket, Susan and Elihu Rose, and Didi and Oscar S. Schafer, the New York Philharmonic tuned up for its much-anticipated annual Opening Gala & Concert. With a standing ovation-worthy tribute to Klara Silverstein and her husband, Larry A. Silverstein, NY Phil Board Member, the night struck all the right chords. Their generosity and vision have been instrumental in supporting the orchestra's artistic endeavors, and on September 24, the Gala itself hit a high note with over 600 guests in attendance and more than $3.8 million raised in support of the Philharmonic.

Upon arrival at the Gala, guests made a grand red carpet entrance through the Karen and Richard LeFrak Lobby, before ascending to the Leon and Norma Hess Grand Promenade for a cocktail reception, where crafted drinks and hors d'oeuvres were offered. The event’s ambiance, beautifully curated by Andrew Pascoe Flowers, complemented by Andrew Grant's sophisticated lighting design, and the evening’s culinary delights were courtesy of CxRA.

Vocalist Josh Groban — acclaimed Emmy, Tony, and Grammy nominee — took the stage as the evening’s featured soloist. Under the masterful baton of Manfred Honeck, the Orchestra dazzled with Suppé’s Light Cavalry Overture and Honeck’s own suite from Puccini’s Turandot. Groban also enchanted the audience with selections from Broadway musicals and popular music, revealed live from the stage. And for the encore, Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 1 and two additional Groban performances brought the night to a close.

Following the concert, guests returned to a transformed Grand Promenade, where tables dressed in wedgewood blue linens, silver chairs, and vibrant hydrangea and orchid centerpieces awaited. NY Phil Special Advisor Deborah Borda and Board Co-Chairmen Oscar L. Tang and Peter W. May delivered remarks, while honorees Klara and Larry A. Silverstein also offered heartfelt speeches.
