Born in Newport Beach and raised just outside San Diego, Jonathan Andrew Hunt (aka OgCrains) spent his youth living the Californian experience that outsiders dream of. As a kid, he spent his days skateboarding, shooting hoops, and - when he was old enough - dabbling with music.
Hunt’s passion for music in middle school led him to learn the piano and trumpet. As he grew older, he eventually became inspired by hip-hop artists and producers - like his fellow West Coast luminary Dr. Dre. By understanding the possibilities of hip-hop, Hunt was encouraged to start making beats of his own.
Still a youth, Hunt had a brief run-in with the law. This saw him leave California and relocate to North Carolina - swapping the sunny West Coast beaches for the Smoky Mountains.
The change worked for him. Within months of moving, he was locking down his production game while at the same time spitting fire into the microphone. In the last few years, he’s released a flurry of singles that have racked up thousands of streams, cementing his place in the North Carolina scene and ensuring he’s primed to move beyond it to a broader audience.
2023 has already become OgCrains’ biggest year yet, with a busy summer season, plenty of live shows in the works, and his incredible new single ‘Helen Keller’ - an instant hit with fans when it was dropped at the end of May.
