This weekend marked the opening “WHIMMYDOODLES,” weaver and colorist Brent Wadden's new exhibition at PACE gallery in Los Angeles. On view now through June 24th, the exhibition is Wadden’s first solo show in the City of Angeles and features a new body of work that build on Wadden's handwoven textiles, which explore geometry and color, in line with the Bauhaus movement and Black Mountain College.
Wadden's work seamlessly merges craft techniques into the field of painting by incorporating handwoven textiles onto canvas. Often sourcing secondhand or found fabrics and yarns, including cotton, wool, acrylic, and hand-woven fibers for his compositions, which are sketched in pencil before being woven. The artist forges his artwork line by line, creating a sense of motion, depth, and magic form the unknown.
