This April marked the 62nd Edition of Salone del Mobile. Milano, the preeminent international furniture fair held each Spring in the Italian fashion and design capital. With a roster of nearly 2,000 exhibitors and over 350,000 attendees, Salone del Mobile Milano is and represents far more than a trade show, with the week-long summit serving as both the financial and creative nucleus for the global design community that ripples across Milan Design Week, pulling in fashion, arts, and hospitality throughout the city.
In addition to exhibitors’ striking and immersive booths— Kartell’s sweeping cutout cityscapes, Minotti’s textural 70s California chic collection, Baxter’s futuristic al fresco desert living—this year’s fair drew on a neuroscience-derived people-first philosophy, to emphasize the visitor and exhibitor experience. Amongst the fair’s cultural program of exhibitions, pop-ups, and talks, were David Lynch’s immersive installation, A Thinking Room, interiors for reflection curated by the Filmmaker and Artist. Also featured was, “Under the Surface,” from Accurat Design Group Italia and Emiliano Ponzi of Salotto, NYC. Large iceberg-like sculptures explored themes of water, conservation, and the resources precious to sustaining life and creating objects of beauty.
