Scott Savlov of Savlov Consulting Inc. shares his journey from being a TV producer to hosting the podcast, The Path Here.
The sports entertainment industry has been in existence for over 85 years. World Wrestling Federation (WWF, now WWE) chairman Vince McMahon coined the term as a marketing term to describe the professional wrestling industry, primarily to potential advertisers, but it can be traced back to 1935 when sports editor Lou Marsh defined professional wrestling as “sportive entertainment”. The sporting industry has evolved, from being covered in newspaper articles to being broadcast on radio and television to being watched online. Sports events are now watched by hundreds of millions of people. Scott Savlov, a TV veteran, describes how he became a TV producer and his subsequent journey.
Scott Savlov, The Legendary TV Producer
Born in Brooklyn, Scott grew up in East Brunswick, New Jersey. He worked hard in school and, like many children, enjoyed staying active through sports. He participated in every sport he could as a child and eventually began studying sports until he was able to cover the NBA for WPST, a local radio station, at the age of 16. He began working as an on-air television sportscaster at the CBS affiliate in Phoenix, Arizona, when he was 20 years old.
In 1996, Scott established Savlov Consulting, a full-service sports, entertainment, promotion, and television production company, while launching several brands and their initiatives on network television. To date, he has created endorsements, advertising campaigns, commercials and business strategies for companies while working in broadcasting and the media.
As of right now, Scott is thought to be one of the last creative forces still active in the world of made-for-television. He has hosted Fox Sports and A&E shows, as well as produced a music event on Alcatraz. The founder of Savlov Consulting Inc. is presently producing the Omega Masters Celebrity Pro-Am in Crans Montana, Switzerland and the Walgreens Charity Classic.
Even though producing sports television may seem like a straightforward task, the TV veteran claims that it is anything but that. It takes knowledge of the sport, an awareness of current pop culture, the ability to convince sponsors to endorse celebrity talent, and, most interestingly, a massive network of connections. As per Scott, they now depend heavily on social media to establish a relationship with the public at large.
Hosting The Podcast
Friends and family would frequently comment on how funny, educational, and insightful Scott's conversations were. Scott decided in 2021 to take that recommendation to heart and create a podcast featuring these exchanges with his celebrity friends, which is how “The Path Here” came to be.
Scott describes “The Path Here” as an exciting forum for him to engage in introspective discussions with his friends about their experiences and how their ambition and passion catapulted them to where they are now. His career has resulted in deep and lasting friendships which he truly appreciates. At last, he says, “Take your time and work with people you like, trust, and can collaborate with to succeed.”
