The Santa Monica Art Museum (SMAM) along Third Street Promenade introduces their first immersive, expanding exhibition Looking West, on view now and throughout Frieze Week in Los Angeles.
In December 2022, museum director Christoph Rahofer opened SMAM with blank walls. These empty spaces and rooms were then allotted to regional arts, allowing participants to define the museum and help to imagine the future of California’s art world. This space has turned into what is now Looking West, an amalgamation of work from both emerging and established artists. The show was named by co-curator Tom Venditti and features artists such as Daniel Canogar and Siebren Versteeg with bitforms gallery, as well as Russell Young, Gretchen Andrew, Jessica Goehring, Joachim Castañeda, and more.
SMAM will be hosting events, exhibitions, and panels with professionals in art curation and museum innovation, and will be displaying NFT exhibitions by SuperRare and virtual reality exhibitions by Vortic and GAZELL.iO.
