There is something lovely and rigorous about the winter. It’s that biting cold, or those brute physical pleasures achieved in the daily routine of staying alive and keeping warm. This gratification, whether it be catalyzed by the first moment in a warm kitchen after a day spent in the snow, or that blossoming redness in the apple of a child’s cheek, is made all the more delightful when spent somewhere beautiful. This Thursday, cultural luminaries arrived at Rio Grande Park in Aspen, Colorado to indulge in these quotidian weatherly delights under the Rocky Mountain landscape—and, perhaps more importantly, they arrived to watch the 12th St. Regis Snow Polo World Championship.
The annual event, now in its twelfth year, is the only one of its kind in North America. VIP spectators among the likes of Billie Lourd, Shaun White, Riley Keough lined the field, celebrating St. Regis’ century-long association with polo and imbibing signature cocktails offered by the epochal hotelier’s Bloody Mary Bar. Crowds watched eagerly as world-renowned polo player Nacho Figueras played for the St. Regis team, alongside teammates Alejandro Novillo Astrada and Tony Calle.
St. Regis encourages all who visit to indulge in its ethos of “living exquisitely.” What day could be more exquisite—more luxurious— than one spent sipping delicious beverages on the periphery of a lively wintertime polo match, surrounded by tastemakers of the most excellent caliber? As the sky grows darker and the weather becomes increasingly unforgiving, no day is as gratifying as one spent under the auspices of the St. Regis Hotel.
