Kiu Ka Yee – The photographer and director from Hong Kong who is currently based in Los Angeles – received her BFA in Photography at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA.
Her photography aims to capture the authenticity, intimacy, attitude and sense of excitement. Loneliness has always been a big subject of her work. She just finished her first short film “Somewhere.”
We asked Ka Yee 20 questions.
**What did you eat for breakfast today?**
A glass of soy milk… I am not really a breakfast person.
**What was the last movie that made you cry?**
_Manchester by the Sea_
**Who do you admire?**
Wolfgang Tillmans!
**What’s something you aren’t good at, but wish you were?**
Writing.
**What’s a hidden talent you have?**
I sometimes cut and dye my own hair…
**If you weren’t doing (art/music/acting) what would you be?**
I really can’t think about any other thing I am able to do… I guess I would be so lost and doing nothing…
**What was the last time you got lost?**
Google Map and GPS helps me a lot! The last time I get lost would be 3 years ago.. My phone died and my GPS didn’t work at the same time.
**What did you do on your last day off?**
Sleep a lot and watch _Stranger Things_ again.
**What’s your ideal vacation destination?**
Phuket Island
**Do you have a pet?**
Yes!! Two cats, Mama and Oreo, and they hate each other
**Do you keep plants?**
Yes! I try to ..but only able to keep cactus .
**What was the last time you failed at something?**
Failed is too negative, just not succeed yet!
**What was the last thing you ate that made you say “Damn!”?**
Awesome ramen place my friend take me to eat

_I, Daniel Blake_, Ken Loach‘s new film. Very powerful piece telling the problems of our society now.
**What is your guilty pleasure?**
Finish 10 pieces of Korean fried chicken and bottle of beer by myself.
**What do you do to relax?**
Stay on my comfy bed and watch Stephen Chow’s film
**What do you do to get revved up?**
Have a bowl of super spicy Yunnan noodle soup.
**What do you Flaunt?**
My first short film that I made with my amazing crew! Especially my Cinematographer Walter Diaz – we worked so hard to get the visuals we wanted.
