Lebrun’s work tells a story through his collection of original intact film posters in which he deliberately tears to create stacks, layers, and collisions. His pieces reinvent and present a different narrative of movie stars, characters, scenes, motion and gender. This collection of film posters are archived from a collection he amassed since childhood, taking him hours to weeks to develop a reimagined version of the poster. 1920s movie posters live in new shapes and imaginary scenes that developed since the creation of his first piece in 2010.

“When I was 9, I used to cut photos out of Cinémonde movie magazines and paste them in my school notebooks. When I was a teenager, I reclaimed film posters from local theaters playing movies I loved. Today, experiencing the freedom of tearing up and recomposing these treasured items is to follow and transgress at the same time the circle of my life, with passion. Suddenly, deep inside of me, everything feels right and makes sense, at last.” - Dominique Lebrun
This exhibition will be his first in the United States.
